A career opportunity exists for a bilingual Account Assistant withRoger Quirion Life Insurance Agency / Quirion Financial Services. QFS has served clients in NW Ontario for over 20-years with RRSPs, investments funds, financial planning, pensions, life insurance and taxation.

This opportunity will appeal to a university or college graduate with two- years work experience in the financial services industry, and has a career interest in the financial services sector.

The candidate must be fluent in French and English, Completion of the Canadian Securities Course and Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) are assets.

Positive inter-personal skills, effective communications and a passion for client services are also value assets. The position will involve some travel within the region.

Account Assistant– Position Description  

The role of the Account Assistant is to support Account Advisors. The responsibilities of the Assistant include client services, client administration, marketing assistance, customer service and supporting growth. The job description covers position summary, key duties, experience, education, professional skills, personal skills, language requirements, work environment and terms of employment.

Position Summary
Client Services: 

The Assistant plays an integral role in the overall success of Advisors in meeting client needs. The Assistant helps Advisors achieve business goals and targets by reviewing client portfolios, identifying client needs, researching product information, reviewing progress against planned activities and responding to client inquiries in a timely manner. 

Client Administration:

Accurate and timely administration of client accounts is paramount to the successful growth and development of the Company. The Assistant is required to perform daily administrative functions in a professional manner in terms of maintaining client files, entering client information into respective systems, reviewing amended contract pages for accuracy, following up on missing and required documentation, and monitoring pending transfers to ensure completion on a timely basis.

It is important to note that the position does involves regular and routine tasks, such as greeting visitors, answering telephones, directing visitors, scheduling appointments and meetings, compiling data and coordinating the flow of information internally.

Marketing Assistance 

In addition to the provision of quality financial services,Roger Quirion Life Insurance Agency recognizes the need for ongoing market development for new clients. The Assistant is responsible for the production, distribution and maintenance of marketing related assets, including promotional materials, website, Social Media, public relations, e-mail lists, content management, etc.. Also, the Assistant will support the Advisors in identifying opportunities to increase revenue within the existing client base, including networking and cross selling with existing clients.   

Customer Services

Delivery of exceptional client service builds trust with clients and forms the basis of effective client relations. Customer service is defined by regular contact with clients, following up on client interactions, providing timely advice and information, referring to Advisors and identifying opportunities. 

Supporting Growth

Company growth and development is a team effort involving all Roger Quirion Life Insurance Agency/QFS employees, which requires an active and engaged mindset for entrepreneurship, new business development, innovation, creativity and collaboration. The Assistant will contribute to company planning sessions, assessment of market intelligence, and identification of potential new opportunities.

The Assistant must have a minimum two-years experience as administrative assistance in the financial industry, and ideally have completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Life License Qualification Program (LLQP). Candidates without licensing will be expected to complete the required licencing within a reasonable amount of time.


The financial industry is dynamic in nature with constant changes with products, services, market conditions and competition. As a minimum the Assistant must have a university business degree or college diploma.  

Life long learning is also a desirable quality with respect to industry-sponsored certifications, professional development and personal interest. The recognized value of continuous learning is to support critical thinking, improve problem solving and enhance working with others.

Professional Skills  

The incumbent must be able to work both independently and in a team environment, and to take direction from advisor(s) and is also resourceful and self-motivated. Effective verbal and written communications skills are also important, as well as effective organizational skills, attention to detail and excellent time-management skills. The Assistant must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Language Requirements

QFS services French and English speaking clients within Thunder Bay and the region of Northwestern Ontario, including the communities of Longlac, Marathon, Terrace Bay and Nipigon. The Assistant must be fluent in French, both spoken and written. 

Personal Skills

The position involves a high degree of client interaction, and requires a person with positive and professional inter-personal skills when dealing with people. The Assistant must have a passion for client service, enjoy talking with clients, getting to know them and helping them achieve their goals.

Work Environment

The office is a professional work environment that involves a high level of activity between Assistants, Advisors, business associates, clients and service providers. There are times when the environment is a fast paced, stressful environment with conflicting demands. The incumbent must be comfortable and challenged by working in such a dynamic environment.

Terms of Employment

A competitive salary is offered for the Assistant, complete with a performance bonus system, based on achieving planned financial performance targets. A benefits package is also offered after three months of employment. All employees are allowed four-weeks of vacation each year.
